LOWERING CARBON FOOTPRINTS
Our production plant in France has aggressively pursued a lower carbon footprint over the course of decades. This has resulted in a total stoppage of oil use, and a drastically reduced use of coal-based electricity. Today, the plant operates on approximately 75% natural gas and 25% electricity. The result is a much lower carbon footprint, and we believe there is more to be done in blazing the trail of sustainability in our industry.
CURBING WATER USAGE
In 2012, Davey Bickford launched an awareness campaign around water usage at our production plant, including technical improvements to water-related infrastructure. As a result, water consumption at our production plant was reduced by 60% between 2012 and 2015.
Longevity in the mining industry requires a deep sense of responsibility to people, communities, and the planet. Davey Bickford leads the way in sustainability commitments, both in the delivery of services and the manufacturing of products. We're committed to preserving the natural environments and social communities in which we operate.
As a proud member of the United Nations' Global Compact charter, Davey Bickford is committed to protect human rights, the right to work, the natural environment, and freedom from corporate corruption.
By making commercial mining operations more efficient, our innovations in drilling and blasting have reduced environmental footprints at mining locations across the world. Furthermore, a strong HSE policy is implemented throughout our global network. This includes risk analysis, reduced use of lead compounds, recycling and waste processing, and soil decontamination.
Our main production site in France continues to evolve toward a zero carbon footprint.
REDUCING DEPENDENCY ON LEAD AZIDE
During the 20th century, the use of lead in various forms opened the door to wide scale innovations in blast detonation technology. The unique properties of lead made it a heavily used component in the manufacturing of explosives, ignitors and detonators.
Scientific understanding has since established lead to be carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction. However, the global mining industry remains dependent on blast-related products that contain various forms of lead.
Davey Bickford has lead the way with an 80% reduction of lead in its detonation products as of 2014. We also introduced the first lead-free ignitors for blast initiation, and have partnered with external research institutes to find a permanent lead substitute by 2020.
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a European Union regulation and addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment. Davey Bickford is proud to be 100% compliant with REACH regulations.

We maintain a zero tolerance policy with respect to corruption
To this end, we established our Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery policy in 2012. This Policy is overseen by a dedicated Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery Committee.
Detailed reporting procedures are set forth regarding any questionable or potentially corrupt business activities. Our company has never been involved in any legal cases, rulings, or other procedures related to bribery and corruption. We take this record seriously, and demand the same from our partners.
To that end, business partners and suppliers that work with Davey Bickford are required to acknowledge and sign a contract that guarantees adherence to anti-corruption principles.
